My mom's very best friend in the whole world is dying of bone cancer. It seems like only a few weeks since my mom got this strange feeling like she should phone her. They've probably only talked a hand full of times on the phone over the years because she still lives in England. Despite the miles she has been and always will be my mom's best friend after all these years....
As my mom says... even though they didn't see each other much the last 20 or so yrs and they didn't often talk she always knew she was there... she was my mom's rock...
A few weeks ago she was at home... still fine... able to talk and function... and just newly diagnosed when my mom called her out of the blue.
Within that short time things have changed drastically... she has fractured her leg, injured her neck and is in hospital with only a few weeks to live.
When i was 14 and she was about my age she went on every single ride in Disneyland, Knottsberryfarm and Magic Mountain in LA with me. When she came back a few years later there were some rides even i wouldn't go on again with her. She was a pretty kewl lady. She taught me to knit too.
My mom thought i might not wanna hear about it cause it's a little too close to home if you know what i mean... and yea it is... but i still want and need to hear about it.

"I have heard it all my life,
A voice calling a name i recognized as my own.
Sometimes it comes as a soft bellied whisper.
Sometimes it holds an edge of urgency.
But always it says:
Wake up my love.
You are walking asleep.
There's no safety in that."
