More On the War

Yes you heard it right. I've got more to say on the war. I got nothing against people falling on the side of peace. I got nothing against people that want to go out and hold little rallies for peace. For all i know they could be right. Maybe Sadam was sitting over in Iraq twiddling his little thumbs contemplating the architectural design of his next palace the last 6mos and had no intention of hurting another soul... who knows?

But... there is nothing wrong with wanting to join the military either. Yes joining the military may involve fighting. Joining the military may involve going to war but it may also involve a thousand other jobs that have nothing to do with fighting and war... lawyers, doctors, mechanics, nurses, firemen, accountants, cooks, dishwashers... the list goes on and on and on... anything we do in the real world the military needs in their world. Many people join the military simply because they cannot afford an education any other way. Maybe their father/mother was in the military? Whatever the reason... no one joins to go fight and KILL other human beings.

As hard as it may be to believe with the way i've been spouting off about war lately...i'm a buddhist at heart. I believe in many of the buddhist ways and beliefs. I don't believe in hurting so much as a fly. I give my kids hell for stepping on ants. I have a catch and release program for all insects in my house. Well all but flies cause they are a bugger to catch. I used to release them when we lived in Edmonton cause the screens popped off and i could just let them out. It's not so easy to do that here.

Oh and the mice. Well lets not get into the mice. We've had to kill them a few times... if it wasn't for the hanta virus i probably wouldn't allow that either... but with the kids and all. Anyway... i digress... you get the point...

...

Without men and women willing to fight and risk their lives in WWII we would all be speaking german now and shouting Hiel Hitler... well i wouldn't be shouting anything because along with the Jewish people Hitler swore he'd wipe every Brit off the face of the planet also.

Without men and women willing to risk the chance they may end up having to go to war and fight we would not have freedom. It's that simple. Whether it be Sadam or Hitler... we would be living under the rule of some murderous dictator.

Whether it's peacekeeping or war or flying to the moon we need to support the military... and the military of our ALLIES as well.

"I have heard it all my life,
A voice calling a name i recognized as my own.
Sometimes it comes as a soft bellied whisper.
Sometimes it holds an edge of urgency.
But always it says:
Wake up my love.
You are walking asleep.
There's no safety in that."
