Medical Schtuffs - the elusive CAT scan surfaces
Well i finally got my CAT scan results back. It took 5 and a half weeks to get the report and only two weeks to have the actual scan done from the time it was ordered. So if people think the problem is with availability they would be wrong.. it looks like we need docs to read the damn scans... not scanners and techs to do 'em now.
Anyway, it's a good thing they found it this time cause my mom was about to have a go at 'em and you don't want my mom havin a go at anyone... scary. I had the scan done because i noticed some lesions in the floor of my mouth and there was some concern re. recurrence of my original cancer.
For the most part the scan of my neck looked normal. There's no evidence of recurrence around the surgical site on the left side. My tongue, sinuses, ears and all that stuff look normal which is good cause that is a common site for adenoid cystic carcinoma.
They can see two well defined lymph nodes which were apparently present on my last CAT scan and haven't changed. I'm wondering if those aren't just the same nodes the pathologist felt and biopsied at the same time he did my parotid gland back in June 2001 which would be something entirely different from what i'm feeling now. My family doc isn't sure but it would make sense.
In summary the radiologist says "i presume the new lesions noted in the mouth described on the provided history have been biopsied". Yea i woulda thought so tooooooooo... but noooooo... lets hope this means they will get on this some time soon. We did the 99.5% sure it's nothing thing the first time... i want the 100% sure it's nothing thing this time thank you very much. :P
And last but not least... they can see a "small focal osteolytic defect" or boney thing in my jaw that "raises the possibility of a small metastatic osseous deposit given history of previous salivary gland tumor." My family doc says they'll have to take it out.
My family doc readily admits he really doesn't know what it all means so he's gonna send it and me all back over to my surgeon... that would be the ENT that did my original surgery and see what he thinks. I go to the cancer clinic in 3 weeks anyway so i'm not too worried about them getting me in to see him or remembering to get me in etc yada yada yada.
So that's about it... i'll probably scan the CAT scan results some time soon and post them for the few of you that can understand that stuff and would be interested in reading it. Over and out.

"I have heard it all my life,
A voice calling a name i recognized as my own.
Sometimes it comes as a soft bellied whisper.
Sometimes it holds an edge of urgency.
But always it says:
Wake up my love.
You are walking asleep.
There's no safety in that."
