Virus DNA may predict head and neck cancer outcome, Reuters Health, November 6, 2002
Investigators in Hong Kong find that head and neck
cancer patients with a high level of Epstein-Barr
virus (EBV) DNA after radiation treatment face a
higher risk of cancer recurrence and death than those
with lower levels of the virus DNA, leading to the
possibility that monitoring levels of EBV DNA may help
predict a person's survival or signal the need for
more treatment.
