Well i'm doing it again... down 5lbs mon to fri... back up 5lbs fri to mon. Can you imagine how bad that is for your body to gain and lose the same 5lbs every fricken week??? I've done this in the past and it takes me awhile to get a grip and stop it. It can be real hard on your head... harder than losing no weight at all. I'm not one to sit around and beat myself up over my flaws but this one pisses me right off. Dimsum has got to go.
There are some fitness/nutrition experts that believe giving yourself one day a week where you can eat whatever you like is the way to go. It supposedly helps fool your body into not thinking you are starving to death as you're losing weight and thereby prevents your body from saying hey i wanna hang on to some of this fat cause there's a major shortage of food around here and we're losing weight.
However, imho i think if you've ever had an issue with food and you are still in the process of trying to lose some weight... bulemia, anorexia or binge eating... whatever the problem was/is this is probably not the way to go.
I'm not a big believer in diets and deprivation. I believe in eating healthy... trying to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible... drink lots of water... keep it simple ie. don't choose overly processed food... etc etc. However, if you wanna eat a donut for example i don't see why not as long as you remember you ate it and eat less of something else to compensate. Most days i'd choose not to eat a donut cause then i can eat more of something else that is more filling and which i'll probably enjoy more anyway.
I can't finish this babble without saying a couple more things. I'm not sure where to start this or exactly how to say it. Lately i've been reading some stuff written by healthy, slim individuals about fat people. Again, imho, i don't think people who have never had weight issues should be commenting on people who have/do deal with weight issues. It just doesn't come off right and never will.
It would be like me trying to comment on what it's like to be black in America... wtf do i know about being black in America??? I can listen... i can read... i can discuss... i can empathize... but i will never truly know what it is like... so for me to talk about it like i actually have some major insight or worse yet bestow some sort of judgement is ridiculous and arrogant and a host of other words i've long forgotten.
Okay so it's not quite the same thing... but fat people are discriminated against just the same... and besides as far as anything addictive goes i've been addicted to it all so i can't really cite something else and say i know nothing about it. The same goes for people who have never smoked. It's great that when you were 14 you were smart enough or lucky enough not to try it but for those of us who did... we were f*cked from day one. There isn't a smoker out there that doesn't wish every day of their lives that they didn't smoke.
There are people out there that say... just stop... stop overeating... stop smoking... start exercising... holy f*ck if it were that easy there would be no addicts... no fat people... no out of shape people... no smokers... no heroin addicts... no tv watchers... no internet addicts... no millionaire self help gurus... no Betty Ford clinic... no one would have heard of a 12 step program... all the houses would be empty and we'd all be outside or in the gyms working our little butts off... with our only goal being to be the healthiest individuals out there. Get f*cking real.
I think it's great if you are one of the few people that have discovered the secret to life... which i think starts with staying in shape and eating healthy... from there many other things become possible. We don't all share the same life experiences or genes though so remember...

"I have heard it all my life,
A voice calling a name i recognized as my own.
Sometimes it comes as a soft bellied whisper.
Sometimes it holds an edge of urgency.
But always it says:
Wake up my love.
You are walking asleep.
There's no safety in that."
